Books and movies are reviewed using this 5-heart rating system:

Heart Score Description
A truly exceptional, must read book or must see movie
A very good book or movie
A good book or movie, with something useful to offer the reader or viewer
The book or movie has one or more features that interfere with understanding and/or appreciation of the work
Don't bother

The scoring system is based on these four factors:

Each of the four above factors is rated on the scale of 1 to 5 hearts, and an average score is then calculated. All published reviews have an average minimum score of 3 hearts or higher. Anything with a score under 3.0 is not published. Keep in mind that this score is a highly subjective opinion and is not a measure of the overall value of the book, which cannot be quantified.

Any books and movies that offer a love-based message are potential candidates for review. The message can be derived from any religion or from no religion. It can be spiritually-oriented or more worldly. Some of the most interesting reviews come from books and movies that do not set out with the intention of being spiritual or loving. I'm often inspired by works that offer an inverse message of love. That means the message is about what not to do or it's about what happens when love is missing.

I prefer to select review material based on my own preference and/or serendipity. However, that said, authors, publishers and production companies are welcome to send copies of their work to the address below. Note that all materials received become the property of The Spiritual Reviewer, whether a review is published or not.

Please keep in mind that I often have a large stack of books by my bedside. I cannot guarantee that I will look at the material or publish a review on it. There are two common reasons for ultimately declining a review. Many authors have a useful message, but the material is organized poorly and I'm not comfortable recommending it. The other reason is that I can't get reading traction. It may be that I've read something similar and am burned out on the subject matter or for some subjective reason the book doesn't work for me.
